On Sunday, the actor and former governor of California posted a seven-minute video on Twitter denouncing the siege, assigning culpability to President Donald Trump and calling for a more united future.
The actor reflected on experiences from his childhood, growing up in Austria amid the aftermath of Word War II, as he made his remarks.
“I grew up in Austria. I’m very aware of Kristallnacht or the Night of Broken Glass. It was a night of rampage against the Jews carried out in 1938 by the Nazi equivalent of the Proud Boys,” Schwarzenegger said, according to TODAY.
He continued, “Wednesday was the Day of Broken Glass right here in the United States. The broken glass was in the windows of the United States Capitol, but the mob did not just shatter the windows of the Capitol, they shattered the ideas we took for granted. They did not just break down the doors of the building that housed American democracy. They trampled the very principles on which our country was founded.”

“If my grandfather were alive today and saw what was happening in the country that he fought for, he’d be disgusted,” Fallon said. “People walking around with the flag upside-down, thinking they’re patriotic? Today was not patriotism, today was terrorism.”
